Explore Galveston’s Rich History with These Three Attractions

Searching for fascinating fun for the family? We suggest checking out the following three attractions. First, explore a genuine drilling rig at the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum. Its three floors of interactive displays and various models offer an up close and personal view into offshore oil and gas drilling. You’ll see scaled examples of production platforms and drill bits along with videos and exhibits explaining seismic technology, geology, production, and more. For more information, click here.

Next, the Texas Seaport Museum offers visitors a look at the state’s vibrant history of seaport commerce, as well as immigration. More than 133,000 immigrants entered Texas through Galveston, which is why the city is often referred to as the “Ellis Island of the West.” A computer database with the names of these immigrants is available for visitors searching for their family history. For details, call (409) 763-1877. Lastly, be sure to stop by the Pier 21 Theater for documentary films that focus on the history of Galveston Island, including its infamous pirate history, and the great storm of 1900. For more information, call (409) 763-8808.
